Viewpoints 9 (Cycle 5) Challenge 6

Title of work: Coastal Erosion

Theme: Irreversibility

Can't get back to it. The state of natural occurrence, as time goes by and environment changes, it is impossible to return to the past. Think about the word, irreversibility, what’s the story that comes to your mind?

When I was sewing this piece of work, I kept asking myself, "Is this me?" It turned out that this is me NOW. Honestly, I can't quite accept the aging process!

Perhaps, each of us has an irreversible story to say? Happy creating!

Moved

Is this me? During a speech, one of the listeners hand painted my portrait. What was the feeling that motivated her to draw? Or, what did I say to inspire her? From the eyes of others, and then through drawing, I see what I look like when delivering a speech. It is so different from photography. I am so much moved! Indeed, this is me!

Materials & Techniques: artist’s hand-dyed fabric, silk, Romanian thread, shell buttons, sequin, beads/ image transfer, hand appliquéd, hand quilted

Artist Statement:

Sea level has been rising due to climate change. Taiwan, surrounded by the sea, is shrinking because of coastal erosion. The hollow rock is a serious threat to the ecological environment. The earth is getting old and climate change has accelerated the aging of the earth. This is an irreversible fact. I am sending blessings to our Earth with the work.

We only care about human aging, how about the aging of the earth? Since the effect of climate deterioration is wide-ranging, not only humans, but also the earth has to be saved. No one wants to be a climate refugee. No one wants to get older, and no one wants the earth's resources to run out. The definition of health is no longer a personal issue. Only if we expand into the global environment, we can realize a beautiful world. Let’s face new challenges, understand the future more deeply, and carefully formulate solution. "What kind of environment should we pass on to future generations?” The irreversible facts can no longer be mistakenly made by us. We firmly believe that the global environment has the opportunity to rejuvenate vitality and have unlimited circulation energy. Everyone is responsible for your actions. I believe it can be changed if we really want to. The strength will be expanded. Best wishes to our planet.
