Viewpoints 9 (Cycle 4) Challenge 9

Title of work: Hello! Tree Roots

Theme: Repetition

My Feedback: Printing Technology

The word, repetition, has many meanings to my life. I get to know about printmaking because of my daughter and become fascinated by the printing technology. It is interesting. It influences my work and I look forward to exploring it in my work. When I was in Houston for the International Quilt Festival in November 2017, I visited the PrintingMuseum. I am glad to share the technology that can be created repetitively.

Artist Statement:

A healthy and vibrant green tree is fully nourished by its growing environment, including sunlight, air, water, and soil. I like to create works with plant themes, but I rarely study the roots. Without healthy development of roots, there will not be healthy trees. This is my understanding of roots after reading and thus I create my first work of tree roots.

The word, repetition, is no stranger to me. My everyday life is repeated, so is my creative life. Nevertheless, there is something fresh - I apply “repetition” to what I have been studying recently, the botany courses conducted by the International Society of Arboriculture. In order to thoroughly understand the courses, I feel every piece of knowledge is constantly repeated and intensively studied. The learning method makes me feel energetic and broadens my horizons. I really enjoy it.

I consider the 9 works in this cycle as a learning series that allows me to relate my new learned botanical knowledge to my creative concept and experiment. To me, a work is no longer just a work; it is more like a learning record. Getting to know more about the natural environment brings lots of changes to my work.

I am thankful for being a member of Viewpoints 9. I would like to say a big thank you to Martha for her works and members who attended the exhibitions to help. V9 is a successful group because of the selfless dedication of each one of you. Best wishes to you all!
