P1360304.jpg

After finishing the top, many students start to quilt!

P1360312.jpg

Last week, students were asked to study underwater bubbles. They were surprised to find out the difference between underwater bubbles and artificial bubbles in aquariums!

P1360326.jpg
P1360332.jpg

How do we create these bubbles in our works with quilting?

P1360337.jpg
P1360338.jpg

I prepare an enlarged sample image for demonstration!

P1360345.jpg

Students bring their handouts to the front, and draw their own quilting lines according to the sample.

After explaining the quilting process, let's see the progress of our works!

P1360407.jpg
P1360408.jpg

Seawater, seaweed, coral and rock... The submarine background has been completed.

We can even see many fish swimming in the water in today's class!

P1360423.jpg

Stand back and enjoy the panoramic view.

It feels like to be surrounded by the underwater world!

P1360426.jpg
P1360430.jpg

Some adjustments can be made to make the work more beautiful!

P1360433.jpg
P1360436.jpg

The project is much more challenging than before.

But we are benefited a lot from the creating process!

P1360437.jpg

Sharing experience and feedback with each other is also a great learning!

P1360440.jpg

I will explain many techniques on our blog.

Stay tuned. Don't miss the learning opportunities!

Playing Quilts - Undersea Party

P1350373.jpg

It’s our one-day class!

Can’t wait to start the brand new unit, Happy Sea, today!

P1350375.jpg

Last week, students were asked to bring images of sea creatures to the class.

So, what are they for?

P1350378.jpg
P1350384.jpg

Let’s hang the images on the wall.

There are shrimp, fish and so on. An undersea world!

P1350393.jpg

Understanding depth of field is essential!

P1350400.jpg

While walking around campus, you can find the difference between foreground and background!

P1350403.jpg
P1350414.jpg

Observe carefully and keep the depth of field concept in mind!

P1350418.jpg

It is time to reveal “Happy Sea”!

P1350421.jpg

The width of this collaborative work is more than 600 centimeters!

P1350426.jpg

Doesn't it look spectacular?

P1350427.jpg

Everyone will also receive a full-color image. Please match the fabrics accordingly.

P1350432.jpg
P1350446.jpg

Let’s get back to the classroom and pick the sea creatures you want!

P1350449.jpg
P1350450.jpg

Cutting and piecing, let the fish swim in the “Happy Sea”!

P1350456.jpg
P1350468.jpg

How do we depict fish that is hiding behind seaweed?

P1350490.jpg

Let’s group the pieces and see the results!

P1350494.jpg

Some adjustments have to be made. Hands-on demonstration is necessary.

P1350526.jpg
P1350529.jpg

Today’s final mission is deciding on the trim lines.

Please discuss with your group members and begin to draw!

P1350532.jpg
P1350535.jpg

Ocean currents and sea waves are very different.

Please take it into consideration when drawing the trim lines!

P1350545.jpg
P1350558.jpg
P1350560.jpg
P1350615.jpg

The next class will begin with fabric matching.

It will be a big challenge to depict the colorful and vivid underwater world with fabrics!

P1350630.jpg

We don’t have class this Tuesday. See you on Sunday, October 30!

Feel free to leave your questions on the guestbook of our blog!

Playing Quilts - Tracing and Pattern Cutting

P1350212.jpg

Have you ever seen questions similar to yours being posted on the guestbook of our blog?

P1350216.jpg

Thanks to those who raise their question, I have opportunities to resolve your doubts!

P1350218.jpg

Written explanations might not be clear enough. I prepare paper patterns for class demonstration!

P1350223.jpg

How do we cut patterns and keep track of the original design?

P1350231.jpg

Fabric cutting is a big deal in making a quilt!

P1350236.jpg

The more detailed design you make, the better your quilt is!

P1350240.jpg

A miss is as good as a mile. There is a lot to learn!

P1350247.jpg
P1350251.jpg

Today is our last class for the unit of “Stupid Bird & Smart Pigeon”.

The completed works can be seen soon!

P1350253.jpg
P1350255.jpg

Have you learned through making and tinkering?

P1350259.jpg

It is amazing to see the entire collection of 28 pieces!

P1350265.jpg

Stand back and enjoy the rare beauty!

P1350272.jpg
P1350276.jpg

These quilts are not big ones.

But the in-depth meaning behind them is more than words. Only those who experienced the creating process can understand!

P1350280.jpg
P1350283.jpg

For those who are new to the class, don’t worry!

Remember, practice makes perfect!

P1350342.jpg

In the second half of the class, we focus on the new unit of “Happy Sea”!

P1350344.jpg

Today is a warm-up for our one-day class on Sunday!

P1350352.jpg

It will be a brand new collaborative project.

Students will make large or small works to create a huge creation!

P1350361.jpg

To be fair, we draw lots to decide the maker of each section!

P1350363.jpg

Please don’t forget to bring the images of sea creatures you prepared to the class on Sunday.

And remember to cut your tracing paper into appropriate size!

Playing Quilts - Soaring Pigeons

 P1350043.jpg

I bring a special quilt to the class today!

P1350049.jpg

It is a collaborative project by artists from Japan, Korea and Taiwan. It took 2 years to complete!

P1350051.jpg

Let’s take a closer look at the stitches that represent Taiwan!

P1350056.jpg

Don’t miss the beautiful backing!

P1350060.jpg

Did you benefit from it?

P1350065.jpg
P1350130.jpg

Let’s see if the classmates are making good progress!

P1350143.jpg
P1350149.jpg

Wow! After some adjustments we made last week, the works look more stunning today!

P1350156.jpg

The sewing techniques and fabric matching of creating pigeons are the most difficult parts.

Glad to see our classmates are getting over the challenges!

P1350163.jpg
P1350164.jpg

Take a closer look at each work and share your feedback!

P1350171.jpg
P1350172.jpg
P1350177.jpg

By seeing other people’s work, you can also check your own work and learn from your mistakes!

P1350178.jpg

This is our class! We are happy to share!

Don’t hesitate to raise questions! Everyone can be a teacher!

P1350063.jpg
P1350067.jpg

I prepare handouts with clear instructions this time.

So let’s do it step by step!

P1350166.jpg
P1350170.jpg

Remember to review the handouts if you are uncertain about the procedure.

P1350183.jpg
P1350184.jpg

I also did my “homework”!

P1350185.jpg

I prepare “special notes” for every student based on their working progress! Hope you find it useful.

P1350188.jpg
P1350191.jpg

It seems like most of the students have completed their quilt top!

P1350193.jpg

Let’s start quilting!

P1350204.jpg

How to minimize quilting shrinkage?

How to make your quilting beautiful?

P1350208.jpg

After my demonstration, I look forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful work next week!
