Resolving Doubts, 2016 Great Snow I
Written and photographed by Lin Hsin-Chen

Confucius said, "When I walk along with two others, they may serve me as my teachers.”
We have 28 teachers in our class. Every teacher has her hidden talents.
One might have learned the doctrine earlier than the other, or might be a master in her own special field.
Some have learned the truth earlier and some have special talents.
I think it perfectly describes the situation in our class.
Understanding the logic of learning is irrelevant to technical expertise.
And knowing right from wrong has nothing to do with seniority.
Therefore, I hope I am always a learner.
There is no lack of teachers, but we need more students.
Isn’t it wonderful to be a student whenever possible?
I don’t like the feeling when I speak on the stage, but no one actually listen.
Due to the reason, I would like to be a learner rather than a teacher.
Teacher and students will benefit from one another mutually.
Sharing my experience with others is the most fortunate thing to me!

A good work depends on viewer’s perception.
As an artist, I create my artworks based on my personal points of view.
As an original designer of a collaborative project, I have to take the whole group into consideration.
The difference is the number of people involved, individual work versus collaborative work.
A good artwork must touch viewers’ hearts, regardless of the number of participating artists.
Therefore, designing a collaborative work requires unique and innovative logical thinking.
There are many factors to consider, including overall planning, time management, process, objectives and capability of the participants.
It is a combination of rational and emotional concepts.
I must admit that sewing Happy Sea is much more difficult than designing it.
It is hard to believe that it is truly a challenging project.
However, the creating process is a brand new experience.
Last night, we saw the initial result of the ongoing project for the first time.
It isn’t easy. Let’s cheer for ourselves and keep up the good work!

Happy Sea is an experimental project with complicated details.
Cohesion plays an essential role in the project.
Since it is a collaborative work, every participant should be fully understood.
What is our mutual responsibility? What is my personal responsibility?
Every detail matters. And this is also our prime learning objective.
Due to the large project, difficult creative process, and different levels of technique and understanding of each participant, making adjustments and corrections while creating is necessary.
The continuous review of the project is a priceless treasure.
The work is nearly complete. Hope it goes smoothly and reaches our goal.

There are always unexpected things happened in large-scale projects.
They might become meaningful learning experience if you pay enough attention.
However, we all have a common problem…
It is easy to point out someone else’s mistake, harder to recognize our own.
As the saying goes, when you point a finger at someone, there are three more pointing back at you.
Friedrich Nietzsche talked about the black hole.
Sigmund Freud also explained human behavior.
We should keep this in mind especially when we are working as a group.

We are moving to the next step, hand quilting, which is also the most challenging part.
Hope everything goes well.
To do, to learn and to earn!
I urge you to seize the learning opportunity.
The classes on December 20 and 27 are the only 2 classes left in this project.
Please work together. Teamwork is critical to this project.
Let’s look forward to a successful work and seeking self-improvement.
Thank you and best wishes to you all!
